Trusts
Trusts are set up by the making of a Settlement during
lifetime or of a Will (to take effect on death).
Trusts are extremely flexible and so can serve many
purposes. The principal ones are:
- As part of a tax planning exercise, to avoid or
reduce tax (usually Inheritance Tax).
- To administer assets for young family members, particularly
if under 18.
- To protect the assets of family members against
claims in the event of divorce or bankruptcy.
