Education
Education forms the main foundation of a child's future and Local Education Authorities have a duty to provide an education suitable for the needs and abilities of each individual child. When this does not happen Morecrofts Solicitors can help you and your child.
Morecrofts is one of very few firms in the North West to specialise in Education Law.
We can help parents by securing access to their chosen school, appealing against exclusions from school and gaining support for their children's special educational needs.
We will provide help and guidance through the complicated special educational needs system, advising whether your child needs to be assessed and have a statement of special educational needs, and will liaise with the Local Education Authority on your behalf. If necessary, we will represent you at a Special Educational Needs Tribunal to make sure your child gets the help they need and deserve.
We can also help and advise you on issues of disability discrimination and other education related issues such as transport to school.
In some circumstances clients have Special Educational Needs which have not been recognised or provided for whilst they are at school, and their needs are not identified until they reach adulthood. If the Local Authority should have recognised these needs and helped with specialist support, and failed to do so, then they may have been negligent. If you are in this situation we can advise you on whether a claim in negligence against the Local Authority or School is possible, and investigate whether you can recover compensation for financial losses, distress and psychological injury and to cover the costs of Specialist tuition.
We are leaders in the field and one of the only firms in the North West to offer Legal Aid for Education Law. We have been specifically approved by the Legal Service Commission to do work in this area. This means we can provide expert services to families who have been let down by the system but who might not have the financial means to fight for their children's rights.
