Criminal Injuries Compensation
Someone who has been injured as the result of a criminal
act may be able to claim compensation from a central
government fund (The Criminal Injuries Compensation
Authority - CICA).
Examples of awards for injuries following assaults:
- Following a minor road-rage incident a man was
awarded compensation from the CICA after he suffered
one punch in the chest and two punches in the arm
from the driver of another vehicle.
He was awarded £1,400
- A Company director was attacked by a fellow director
with a hammer and left for dead. He survived but suffered
brain damage and is unlikely to be fit for work ever
again. The award made to him took into account the
injuries he suffered as well as past and future loss
of earnings.
He was awarded £338,569
