Child Abuse Compensation
You may have read or seen on the television the coverage
of the North Wales Children's Homes scandal, and there are
many other similar cases that are brought to light all the time.
There were many compensation claims made by survivors
from North Wales, but did you know that people who were
in other homes are making claims as well?
A lot of people who were abused in care have never
mentioned this fact to their families. They
may not have known who to turn to. They may not know
they are able to claim compensation. Some people may
even have reported the abuse in the past but not
been believed.
Morecrofts has many years of experience and a proven track record of dealing with victims of abuse. Alison Lobb is a member of the Association
of Child Abuse Lawyers (ACAL). Alison pursues claims
arising from abuse which happened particularly, but not
exclusively, in care homes. She offers a confidential
service and can assess your entitlement to public funding
(formerly Legal Aid).
ACAL was created in 1997 in an attempt to offer the
best possible legal advice to survivors of abuse and
to deal effectively with these traumatic cases. Alison
is backed up with a network of experts and other
professionals.
At Morecrofts we realise that money can never compensate for such traumatic experiences, and many victims are not interested in compensation. Some survivors feel that they benefit from pursuing legal action, but others may find that they do not wish to take matters further. Before taking any action we will discuss with you what is involved, what we can and cannot do for you, and how it may make you feel. We may be able to refer you to counselling services or survivors groups who can help you with any worries you may have, or to come to terms with your experiences. We will not pressurise you to take any action, but if you decide you do wish to bring a claim we will ensure that matters are dealt with sensitively and confidentially at all times.
Recently we have obtained compensation payments of up to £45,000 for clients who have suffered injury as a result of abuse by others. In most of those cases our clients also received a full written apology from the people responsible for their injuries and went away with the knowledge that their account had finally been believed and that someone had been held responsible.
